Mindful Monday for July 21- Finding Your Balance

The topic for this week’s Mindful Monday post is “Finding Your Balance”.

Keep Balance calm

It’s a never-ending attempt of mine.  If you’re like me, you get all caught up in a project and give it your all to the suffering of everything else.  It seems like the only time I accomplish anything truly meaningful is when I eat, sleep, and breath whatever it is that takes my focus on that one thing.  I’ve always been an all-or-nothing person. Not that I want or choose to be; it just seems to happen.  Balance is something I truly need to grasp and it seems like it’s always just out of my grasp.  How about you?

This image came across my Facebook feed and it reminded me a lot about the need for balance.  It’s funny, but really, isn’t it so true of all of us??

Too Much

The best scripture about this topic can be found in Ecclesiastes chapter 3, verses 1-8

To Everything There is a Season

“To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:  A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted; A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up; A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance; A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;  A time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away; A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;  A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace.”

There is a time for everything of any importance in our lives and I think the problem we run into is determining what IS important for OUR life and scheduling everything in it until the cycle becomes a habit.  I have many responsibilities and interests and I can’t seem to be able to keep each of them in their own respective slot and move on to the next.

As I need to meditate on this subject myself, I went searching the web for a good devotion on this topic.  I found one here and will share it below for us all. I hope we all can learn a thing or two 🙂

Balance In Life

“Then, because so many people were coming and going that they did not even have a chance to eat, he said to them, “Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest. “Balance is a difficult thing to achieve.” – Mark 6:31 (NIV)

Success usually requires discipline, a large commitment of time, and a lot of hard work.  But sometimes what’s needed is to take a vacation!  Taking a trip is not always necessary, but taking a break from your normal routine is.

You need time to think, and time to listen to what God is saying to you — as well as physical rest. Without taking time to “recharge your batteries” you will never be your best.

People who face relentless responsibilities, such as pastors, mothers of young children, care givers, and owners of small businesses, especially need an occasional break.  (Be creative. It doesn’t have to be expensive.)

We want to lead productive lives and be fruitful in our walk with the Lord, but we cannot take the place of God. We cannot do everything. We are not God.

Burning out is not a good witness for the Lord, as it makes Him look like a hard taskmaster.

Humans require rest. To continue to be healthy and productive for many years, we must live a balanced life which includes rest and taking time off.

Always keep the big picture in mind. That includes eternity.

SAY THIS: “Lord, help me to achieve balance in my life.”
